It lives in mattress, bed sheet, pillow cover, blankets, carpet, furry toys, soft boards, accumulated dust particles, filter of air condition or cooler, upholstered furniture. Practically everywhere around the human being as it thrives on desquamated epithelium or dead skin of human being. It is found more in wet or damp atmosphere. It is microscopic creature not seen with naked eye.
Avoidance of House Dust Mite is not only difficult it's practically impossible.
So it's definitive treatment is Immunotherapy. |

Control Measures |
- Decreasing exposure to house dust.
- Dust reducing measures are particularly effective when applied to the bedroom since more time is spend in bedroom.
- Carpeting is a major problem which accumulates dust and also acts as nest
for mites, so removal of carpet or it's thorough regular vacuum cleaning helps a lot.
Cleaning is not to be carried out by the patient and not even in his presence.
- Mattresses are excellent site for dust mite to grow. They require regular vacuum cleaning or washing if they are washable or plastic casing is must.
- Hepa Filters may reduce allergen concentration level.
- Upholstered furniture, furry toys, soft boards, books etc should be removed from the room.
- Humidity & dampness are not allowed to occur so far as possible.
- One should not use furry blankets. Instead of that cotton sheets can be used.
While sleeping, one should keep the face uncovered and air-conditioners should be serviced regularly to reduce mites & dust. |
